How it works
- Take the photo
Against a plain light-colored background, with your head, shoulders and upper body in the photo, taken in the last month. Then tap Upload photo.
- Keep it whole
Resize opens on UK passport with Digital photo picked: the whole photo is kept, because GOV.UK says not to crop it. For a paper form tap Printed photo 35 × 45 mm and drag the box.
- Save and download
Tap Save & get link. You see the pixels and the size of the JPG — tap Download and upload it in the online application.
The official rules
GOV.UK asks for a digital photo at least 600 pixels wide and 750 pixels tall, at least 50KB and no more than 10MB, in color, clear and in focus, unaltered by computer software, against a plain light-colored background, taken in the last month. A photo taken with your own device must show your head, shoulders and upper body. Do not crop it — it will be done for you.
What BasePic does
Digital photo keeps the whole photo and its pixels — no crop and no retouching — and saves it as a JPG between 50 KB and 10 MB. An iPhone HEIC photo becomes a JPG. If the photo is under 600 × 750 pixels, BasePic tells you: it does not make a small photo bigger.
Printed photo
For a paper form the photo must be 45 mm high and 35 mm wide, with the head 29–34 mm from the chin to the crown, on a plain cream or light grey background. Printed photo 35 × 45 mm crops to that shape, makes 413 × 531 pixels and marks the JPG as 300 DPI, so at its own size it prints 35 × 45 mm.
File format
GOV.UK does not name a file format for the digital photo. BasePic saves a JPG.
