How it works

  1. Upload your photo

A sharp color photo, facing the camera. Tap Upload photo.

  2. Place your head

Resize opens with the IEC photo size picked and a 35 × 45 box on the photo. Drag the box so your head, from the chin to the crown, takes 31–36 mm of the 45 mm height — about 69–80 % of the box.

  3. Save and download

Tap Save & get link. BasePic saves a color JPEG between 60 and 240 KB and shows its size — tap Download and upload it in your IEC work permit application.

The official rules

For the IEC work permit IRCC asks for a digital photo of at least 420 × 540 pixels, in JPEG or JPEG2000, ideally 240 kB and not less than 60 kB, in color (24 bits per pixel, RGB). The frame must be at least 35 × 45 mm and the head, from the chin to the crown, 31–36 mm.

What BasePic does

One tap crops your photo to the 35 × 45 shape, makes it 420 × 540 pixels and saves a color JPEG of up to 240 KB. If even the highest quality stays under 60 KB, BasePic makes the photo larger in the same shape, up to 840 × 1080, until it reaches 60 KB, and shows you the size it made. The background, the light and your pose come from the photo you take.

IEC, not every Canada visa

These rules are from the IEC work permit page. Other Canadian applications have their own photo rules — the PR card, for example, asks for 715 × 1000 to 2000 × 2800 pixels. Check the page for the application you make.
