SMF image upload
One button next to Post.

A free SMF 2.1 mod. Members click Upload image, pick or drop photos, and the BBCode lands in their post. No sign-up, no API key.

Not on SMF? There is a phpBB extension and a MyBB plugin, and the website plugin adds the same button to XenForo, vBulletin, Discourse or any page with a text box — one script tag.

What your members get

  1. Upload image

A button next to Preview and Post — new topic, reply, edit, personal messages and quick reply.

  2. Pick or drop

A small BasePic window opens. Choose photos, drop them in, or paste a screenshot. Several at once.

  3. Insert into post

One click puts the BBCode at the cursor and closes the window. Each image links to its BasePic page.

Privacy

The mod loads nothing from basepic.com until a member clicks the button. The upload happens in the BasePic window, under the BasePic Privacy Policy and Terms. Programs (.exe, .msi, .apk …) are refused, also inside ZIP files; illegal content is removed.

The .zip is the full source (PHP, JavaScript, GPL-2.0). SHA-256: 5858539a8fc4963532154f9f28fc47eada9fb28863f0999d9e874ca192ddab83

SMF mod questions

Which SMF versions does it support?

SMF 2.1. It was tested on SMF 2.1.8 with the default theme, on PostgreSQL and PHP 8.3.

Does it edit my source files or templates?

No. The package adds three files and two hooks (integrate_sceditor_options and integrate_general_mod_settings). Uninstalling removes them.

Does it work with the WYSIWYG editor?

Yes. The code goes into the editor at the cursor, in WYSIWYG and in source mode, also in the quick reply box.

Do my members need a BasePic account?

No. Members upload without signing up, and so do you. There is no API key to set.

Does the mod load scripts from BasePic?

No. Its script (about 4 KB) ships with the package as Themes/default/scripts/basepic_upload.js and loads only on pages with the button. Nothing is loaded from basepic.com until a member clicks Upload image. The window then sends the code back with postMessage, addressed only to your forum.

Where does the button appear?

Where members write topics, replies and personal messages, and in quick reply — when BBCode is on and the [img] tag is not disabled. Without BBCode or [img] the button is not shown.

Where are the images stored and for how long?

On basepic.com, each with its own short link. They stay until the uploader deletes them or until the expiry they choose (1 day to 1 year). Uploads are private — not listed anywhere and hidden from search engines.

Is it free? Are there limits?

Yes, free and open source (GPL-2.0). Limits are per member address: 60 uploads or edits per hour, 300 per day and 2 GB per day; 20 uploads from a link per hour and 100 per day.

How do I remove it?

Admin → Package Manager → Browse Packages → Uninstall Mod. Check "Remove all data associated with this modification." to delete the settings too. Images already posted keep working.
