Why people look for an Imgur alternative

In April 2023 Imgur announced new Terms of Service, effective 15 May 2023. In its own words, it would be “focused on removing old, unused, and inactive content that is not tied to a user account from our platform as well as nudity, pornography, & sexually explicit content”, and it is “not able to assign anonymous uploads to an account” [1] [2] [3]. Since that update, “explicit content is no longer permitted on Imgur” [4].

Imgur’s help centre also lists its upload limits: still images up to 50 MB, animated images and videos up to 200 MB, videos no longer than 180 seconds, PNG files over 5 MB converted to JPEG, and still images over 1 MB (anonymous) or 5 MB (account holders) lossily compressed [5].

If you share screenshots, photos or forum images and want links that do not depend on an account, a post or a time limit, BasePic is built for that.

What BasePic gives you

How to move your images to BasePic

  1. Save your images

Download the images you want to keep from where they are now. Imgur’s help describes a Download image option on each image in a post [5].

  2. Upload them all at once

On the home page select or drop all of them together. Each image gets its own short link and direct link.

  3. Copy the links

Copy all short URLs copies every link; Copy all for forum copies BBCode for all images at once. For HTML or Markdown open Embed codes on a card.

  4. Replace the old links

Paste the new links or codes into your posts, pages and chats. The direct link works wherever an image address is expected.

Imgur alternative questions

Is BasePic free?

Yes. There is no account, no key and no watermark. Each file can be up to 2 GB, and each visitor can upload up to 2 GB a day (60 uploads an hour, 300 a day).

Do I need an account to upload?

No. Open the home page, drop your files and copy the links. The same works from the ShareX uploader, the Windows app, the website plugin and the API.

Do my images expire?

Not unless you choose that. Keep files is set to Forever; before uploading you can pick auto-delete after 1 day, 7 days, 30 days or 1 year.

Does BasePic change my images?

No. Images keep their original quality and size. Two things change: iPhone HEIC photos are turned into JPG so they open everywhere, and GPS location is removed from photos and phone videos before they go online.

Can I use the links on forums and websites?

Yes. Every upload has a direct link to the file, which works in BBCode [img] tags and HTML <img>, and a short link to a page with a preview. Embed codes gives you BBCode, HTML and Markdown, full size or as a linked thumbnail.

Can I upload videos and other files?

Yes. Videos (MP4, MOV, WebM, MKV, AVI and more) and any other file such as ZIP or PDF, each up to 2 GB. Programs such as .exe are not accepted.

Who can see my uploads?

Only people who have the link. BasePic has no public gallery, uploads are not listed anywhere and their pages are hidden from search engines.

How do I delete an upload?

Open the short link in the browser you uploaded from and press Delete. Both links stop working right away.
