How it works
- Upload a JPG
Tap Upload photo and pick one JPG, or several at once.
- Tap PNG
Convert opens on the photo, with PNG marked. Tap it.
- Done
The PNG downloads right away, with the same name.
Why PNG
PNG keeps every pixel exactly (lossless). It is a good choice for screenshots, graphics with text and images you will keep editing.
What PNG can’t do
Turning a JPG into a PNG does not bring back detail the JPG already lost, and it does not make the background transparent. The picture looks the same, in a bigger, lossless file.
Made in your browser
Your browser draws the photo and saves it as PNG, without another upload. The JPG itself is uploaded, so you also get a link to it.
Full size
The PNG keeps the full size of the photo, up to 50 megapixels on computers. iPhone and iPad browsers draw up to about 16 megapixels, so bigger photos come out a little smaller there.
JPG to PNG: questions
How do I convert JPG to PNG?
Upload the JPG, open Convert on it and tap PNG. The PNG downloads right away.
Will the PNG be bigger?
Usually yes. PNG is lossless, so a PNG of a photo is often several times bigger than the JPG.
Will the background become transparent?
No. A JPG has no transparency, so the PNG keeps the same background. Converting only changes the file format.
Can I convert to WebP too?
Yes. Convert saves JPG, PNG and WebP. Some browsers, such as Safari, can’t save WebP — BasePic tells you when that happens.
