How it works

  1. Take the photo

Full face, front view, eyes open, against a plain light-colored or white background, with no shadows. For the e-Visa, without glasses. Then tap Upload photo.

  2. Place your head

Resize opens with the India visa photo picked and a square box on the photo. Drag the box so your whole head, from the top of your hair to the bottom of your chin, is in the middle.

  3. Save and download

Tap Save & get link. BasePic saves a 600 × 600 JPEG between 10 and 300 KB and shows its size — tap Download and upload it in your visa application.

The official rules

For the e-Visa the Government of India asks for a JPEG photo between 10 KB and 1 MB, with equal height and width: full face, front view, eyes open and without spectacles, the head centered from the top of the hair to the bottom of the chin, against a plain light-colored or white background, with no shadows and no borders.

Regular visa

For a regular visa through an Indian Mission the photo is also a square JPEG, but between 10 KB and 300 KB, with the head 1 to 1 3/8 inches (25–35 mm). The photo upload guide on the same site gives at least 350 × 350 and at most 1000 × 1000 pixels.

What BasePic does

One tap crops your photo square, makes it 600 × 600 pixels — inside the 350 to 1000 pixel range — and saves a JPEG between 10 and 300 KB, so the same file fits the e-Visa and the regular visa. The e-Visa page gives no pixel size; 600 × 600 is the size BasePic picks. The background, the light and your pose come from the photo you take.

Passport page as a PDF

The e-Visa also asks for a scan of your passport bio page as a PDF between 10 KB and 300 KB. Image to PDF under 300 KB, in the tools below, makes that PDF from a photo of the page.

India visa photo: questions

What size is an India visa photo?

A square JPEG: 10 KB to 1 MB for the e-Visa, 10 KB to 300 KB for a regular visa. BasePic makes 600 × 600 pixels between 10 and 300 KB, which fits both.

How many pixels should the India visa photo be?

The regular visa guide says at least 350 × 350 and at most 1000 × 1000 pixels, with equal height and width. The e-Visa page gives no pixel size. BasePic makes 600 × 600.

Why does my India visa photo not upload?

Check the file: the e-Visa takes only a square JPEG between 10 KB and 1 MB, the regular visa a square JPEG between 10 KB and 300 KB. A photo straight from a phone is usually several MB and not square.

Can I wear glasses in the India e-Visa photo?

No. The e-Visa page asks for a photo without spectacles.
